In fifth
grade TAG, we will begin with our unit on the “Stock Market: Economics of Life,” which focuses on Higher
Order/Critical Thinking and Advanced Communication Skills. In this unit, students will learn how to make
informed financial decisions and will participate in The Stock Market Game, an
online simulation of stock trading, with students across the state of Georgia.
Students will have hands-on opportunities to
learn about money, personal finance, wealth building, and increase their
knowledge of financial vocabulary. Life
and Monopoly are great games to play at home during this unit. These games will offer students the
opportunity to apply economic concepts to real life situations. Speaking with your kids about how you make
financial decisions would also support our unit’s learning objectives.
Each day, students will identify and progress in the use of
the Higher Order/Critical Thinking Skills.
These skills include: asking
complex questions, using criteria to make comparisons, using criteria to make
decisions, using criteria to evaluate decisions, predicting consequences of
decisions, using metaphors, examining an issue from various points of view, and
drawing conclusions.
We look forward to a fun year in fifth grade TAG!
